Fisica of Università “La Sapienza”
(Roma) will give a
seminar entitled:
Proposal of a
surface detector array designed to detect nu_tau flux
Abstract
In this talk we
present a proposal of a detector array designed to measure τ showers
emerging from the ground and produced by ντ interactions
with the Earth's crust is presented. Each unit of the array, composed of four scintillator tiles mounted on a frame with a field of view of
about 0.15 sr
and optimized
to distinguish between up-going and down-going crossing particles by the time
of flight. The detector array sensitivity, the size of the array and
τ shower
identification are discussed and in the
hypothesis of full mixing of νμ → ντ
oscillations, a rate of events per
year in the energy range 1017 - 1018 eV is estimated.
